Community in popular culture

Now that I’ve brought Jon Stewart into the community, or the discussion of community, I should mention that Berkshire Publishing created a database of “Community and Popular Culture” a few years ago, in conjunction with the Encyclopedia of Community. The database lists myriad movies, TV shows, novels, and even songs, mostly American but some from other countries around the world. A great way to get a sense of the variety of experiences people have, and questions they ask.

What’s amazing to me is that we put the database together before there was much online social networking, so there’s nothing here about things like the Daily Show community. But is that popular culture or something else?
